Based on the weapons of the "Star Wars" film series, I designed my own version of a light saber.  The hilt is made from a sink drain and assorted plumbing and hardware bits, while the lighted portion is a clear plastic tube with a mirror at the far end to reflect the light.  A tactical flashlight inside creates the illuminated effect, with either bluish-white or red light.
